This copy of the book can't run code. On your machine, Run builds your project and checks the selected example, and Submit runs every test.
Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any coding assistant. It clones the workbook, checks the tools it needs (asking before installing anything), sets up your project and starts the book. The prompt tells it not to solve anything for you.
I want to work through the "Tiny TrueType Workbook" workbook (https://github.com/knmn2000/techblog-workbooks/tree/main/workbooks/tiny-truetype-renderer). Please set it up on my machine so I can start solving it. Work step by step and tell me what you're doing.
1. Clone only this workbook:
git clone --depth 1 --filter=blob:none --sparse https://github.com/knmn2000/techblog-workbooks.git
cd techblog-workbooks
git sparse-checkout set workbooks/tiny-truetype-renderer
cd workbooks/tiny-truetype-renderer
2. Read the workbook's README.md in that folder; it is the source of truth for setup.
3. Detect my operating system, then check which of these I have installed and tell me what's missing:
- g++ (GCC or MinGW)
- CMake and Ninja
- Python 3.11 or newer
- fontTools, for fresh test sets (pip install fonttools)
For anything missing, show me the install command for my OS and ask before running it.
4. Set up my project: run "py -P tools/project.py setup" on Windows ("python3 -P tools/project.py setup" elsewhere). It creates solutions/, the C++ project I'll build one assignment at a time. If I'd rather use another language, the README says how.
5. Start the study server from the workbook folder and leave it running: on Windows run study.cmd; elsewhere run python3 -P tools/serve.py. (Python 3 is "py" on Windows and "python3" elsewhere.) Then tell me the URL to open (usually http://127.0.0.1:8787).
6. Confirm it works: run the checker for assignment 01 (".\check 01" in PowerShell, "python3 -P tools/check.py 01" elsewhere). The first run creates that assignment's files; the second should say "Not implemented yet", because the starter code leaves the work to me. A setup or build error means something is wrong, so fix it.
Note: This workbook was built on Windows, and its build and run commands in workbook.json use .exe names. On Linux or macOS, adapt them and tell me what you changed.
Ground rules: I want to solve the assignments myself. Don't write solutions, and don't open or summarise anything in the _spoilers/ folder or the Editorial. Help only with setup, and with a problem only when I ask.git clone --depth 1 --filter=blob:none --sparse https://github.com/knmn2000/techblog-workbooks.git cd techblog-workbooks git sparse-checkout set workbooks/tiny-truetype-renderer cd workbooks/tiny-truetype-renderer
git clone https://github.com/knmn2000/techblog-workbooks.git cd techblog-workbooks/workbooks/tiny-truetype-renderer
Run the command for your system from the workbook folder. The book opens in your browser with Run and Submit working.
# Windows study.cmd # macOS and Linux python3 -P tools/serve.py
This workbook was built and tested on Windows. Its build commands in workbook.json use .exe names, so on Linux or macOS they may need small changes.
